Grenchen
A hallmark of quality of life
Grenchen; “The city for people who don’t want to live in a city”
This is the city’s new trademark. From a tourism perspective, it is part of the Jurasonnenseite tourism organization, along with the municipalities of Bettlach and Lengnau (BE). The innovation of world-renowned watch brands and the high-tech industry meets a high quality of life, complemented by a wide range of excursion and recreational opportunities.
Whether it’s winter or summer: During the warmer months, you can cool off at the outdoor pool or go canoeing on the Aare. In any case, the nationally significant “Witi” nature reserve in the southern part of the region attracts visitors with its many biking and walking trails. In winter, you can ski down the nearby Grenchen Mountains or go snowshoeing with friends . From the Wandflueh, you can not only enjoy the panoramic views but also take in the best view of the Bettlachstock, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, with its centuries-old beech forest.
Cycling is also actively practiced and promoted year-round, as the Tissot Velodrome—home to one of Europe’s fastest 250-meter tracks—is located at the southern foot of the Jura Mountains, not far from one of the world’s largest BMX and pump track facilities.
Events such as the “Summerside Festival,” “Rock am Märetplatz,” and the “Grenchen International Music Week” ensure that a wide range of musical tastes are catered to. There’s always something going on—discover the sunny side of the Jura.
