Water Authority
The Water Authority Brings Together Industry and Agriculture
As the name suggests, water is everywhere in the Wasseramt. The district is home to the Burgaeschiand Inkwiler lakes—the only two lakes in the canton of Solothurn. In addition, major groundwater flows run parallel to the Emme River through the Wasseramt. In some places, the groundwater lies at a depth of just 40 centimeters.
With the industrial towns of Zuchwil, Biberist, Derendingen, and Gerlafingen, as well as the farming villages in the outer Wasseramt region (e.g., Hüniken and Drei Höfe), industry and agriculture have always coexisted in the Wasseramt.
With its 13th-century tower in Halten, the Wasseramt is home to a unique local history museum. In addition to the permanent exhibition featuring everyday objects and tools from past centuries, the museum hosts rotating thematic exhibitions.
The Urzeitenweg trail runs right through the Wasseramt region. It traces the historical development from the Stone Age through the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. It highlights topics such as culture, medicine, work, and production, and connects well-known sights throughout the Wasseramt region.
