Solothurn

The Most Beautiful Baroque City in Switzerland

Solothurn, with its stunning Baroque architecture, the impressive St. Ursen Cathedral, and the beautiful natural surroundings, is a popular destination for day trips. In the car-free Old Town, there is plenty to see and discover: historic landmarks and charming fountains, fascinating museums, and boutiques offering fashion and gifts. A special gathering place is the colorful weekly market: Every Saturday morning, the market stalls sell farm-fresh produce and regional delicacies. Countless restaurants cater to your culinary needs, and those who wish to stay longer in Solothurn will find accommodations in every price range.

Cultural and sporting events such as the Solothurn Film Festival, the Literature Festival, and Bike Days enjoy national and international renown. The Art Museum features interesting exhibitions and is proud of its collection, which includes works from the Middle Ages as well as pieces by famous painters such as van Gogh, Matisse, and Hodler. Solothurn is also a sports-oriented city—with around 500 km of interconnected bike routes, hiking trails leading to the Verena Gorge and the nearby Jura Mountains or Bucheggberg, golf courses, and a rope park.
