Beinwil Monastery

Silence and Contemplation at the Beinwil Monastery
The Beinwil Monastery in the Schwarzbubenland region is a spiritual place of power of historical significance. The complex, believed to have been founded around 1100, now includes the monastery church—built in the late 17th century—as well as the convent buildings. Since 2019, the complex has been operated as the Holy Orthodox Monastery of John Kapodistrias. Situated on a hilltop on the Passwang, the monastery was already an important stop on the pilgrimage route from Basel to Solothurn in the Middle Ages, and it still invites visitors today to retreat and reflect on themselves. This can be done in the monastery’s guest rooms or as a day visitor. The Greek Orthodox monastic community welcomes people from all over the world who are seeking inner peace and inspiration.
