Guided Forest Hike from Thal Over the First Jura Range to the Gäu – Sign up now!

Guided Hike on Saturday, July 25: From Holderbank, SO, to Egerkingen

The hike from the village center in Holderbank over the Roggenschnarz to Egerkingen is one of the classic hikes in the canton of Solothurn. It winds along the foothills of the Jura Mountains through quiet forests and offers repeated, breathtaking views across the Mittelland to the Alps.

Starting at the PostBus stop, the trail heads toward Roggen and soon enters shady beech forests. At the edge of the forest, a beautiful view of Balsthal and the valley opens up. Further up, the mysterious boulder field interspersed with fir and spruce trees lends the trail a fairy-tale atmosphere. Passing a rushing spring and following the idyllic “Schäferwägli,” a short, steep climb finally leads to the Hauensteinmatt plateau with its striking old beech trees.

The Roggenschnarz is the highest point of the hike. From there, the trail leads over scenic high ground to the Schlosshöchi, offering a view of Alt-Bechburg. This is followed by a varied descent through different types of forest until the trail finally leads to Josef Meinrad Rauber Square in Egerkingen.

The destination of the hike is Josef Meinrad Rauber Square in Egerkingen. From there, participants will continue their journey on their own.
