Not far from the city, Solothurn’s local mountain, the Weissenstein, beckons not only families but also ambitious hikers. Whether you hike up the mountain on foot or take the Weissenstein cable car straight to the top—both have their own charm. Once you reach the summit and want to gaze at the stars with your family, the Planet Trail offers a wonderful experience and a chance to learn about the galaxy. And, of course, get a little closer to the solar system: every kilometer hiked corresponds to one billion kilometers. Beautiful campfire sites round out this adventure perfectly. Ambitious hikers, on the other hand, tend to choose the “Panorama Tour”: after the steep ascent from Oberdorf to the Weissenstein, this route truly lives up to its name. With a bit of luck, the view stretches from the Säntis to Mont Blanc.
