Route No. 5: Jura High Trail“
” Stage 3, Staffelegg – Hauenstein
The itinerary includes five mountain passes: After the Staffelegg come the Bänkerjoch, the Salhöhe, the Schafmatt, and finally the Unterer Hauenstein. In between, there are plenty of forests, a few pastures, and the rugged Geissfluh on the border with Baselland.
Route No. 5: Jura Höhenweg
Stage 4, Hauenstein – Balsthal
On the way to Belchenfluh, many buildings and coats of arms serve as reminders of Switzerland’s defensive role during the two world wars. After passing through the hamlet of Bärenwil, which comes up shortly, the trail continues via Tiefmatt to Roggen. Far below, Balsthal greets you with Neu-Falkenstein and the paper mill.
Route No. 5: Jura High Trail
Stage 5, Balsthal – Weissenstein
The reward for the steep climb up to the Höllchöpfli is a scenic high-altitude hike through forests and across meadows. Passing geological features and numerous mountain inns, you’ll reach the Weissenstein, known as the “balcony of Solothurn.”
Route No. 5: Jura High Trail
Stage 6, Weissenstein – Frinvillier
From the “roof gable” of the canton of Solothurn, with its many views across the Jura Arc, the Mittelland, and the Alpine range, the trail winds through forests and across typical Jura pastures. The first third of the trail also follows the Planet Trail. The language border is at Montagne de Romont.
Route No. 7: Via Gottardo
Stage 3, Läufelfingen – Olten
An old mountain pass route leads over the Unterer Hauenstein to Olten. Thanks to a base tunnel, only the S-Bahn now travels along this scenic route over the pass. This means you can enjoy the view from the Hauenstein in peace and quiet.

Route No. 76: Seeland – Solothurn –“
”Trail, Stage 3, Büren an der Aare – Bätterkinden
A gentle ascent through the idyllic rolling hills of the Bucheggberg to the historic Buchegg Castle. Views across the Aare Plain and the Mittelland, toward the Jura Mountains and the Weissenstein range. An ideal spring tour when snow still covers the higher elevations.
Route No. 76: Seeland – Solothurn –“
”Trail, Stage 4, Bätterkinden – Solothurn
Follow the secluded riverside path to the Emmenschachen floodplain, where the Emme flows into the Aare. Industrial buildings contrast with play areas along the water. Pass through gates and cross bridges to step into the history of the Baroque city of Solothurn.

Wasserfallen Mountain Station – Passwang, Vogelberg – Wasserfallen Mountain Station
On the ridgeline trails around the Wasserfallen, the views in every direction are breathtaking: to the northwest, the Black Forest and the Vosges; to the south, the Alps—on clear days, the view stretches from the Allgäu to Mont Blanc. Another highlight: the highest point in the Basel region—the “hinteri Egg.”

Hike or take the cable car up to the Weissenstein, a popular excursion destination featuring a historic spa hotel, recreational activities, and panoramic Alpine views. Sun, moon, and stars along the "Planetenweg" trail; a peaceful hike through the Jura Forest to Welschenrohr.
Route No. 478: Weissenstein – Passwang – Trail“
” Stage 2, Welschenrohr – Passwang
A scenic high-altitude hike across the second Jura Range. The wild and romantic trail through the Wolfsschlucht Gorge sparks a spirit of discovery and adventure, especially in children. Numerous mountain inns along the route over the Schelten Pass invite you to stop for a break.
Route No. 484: Wolfsschlucht Trail
Welschenrohr (Wolfsschlucht) – Welschenrohr
On this hike, you’ll experience the many different facets of the Thal Nature Park. The hike begins with an ascent through the beautiful and wild, romantic Wolfsschlucht gorge and continues along the airy heights of the Second Jura Range.
Route No. 485: Tüfelsschlucht-Belchen Trail
Hägendorf–Olten
This varied hike takes you through interesting landscapes typical of the Jura region: gorges, forests, pastures, and rocky ridges. After enjoying the breathtaking view from the Belchenflue and descending through forests and across meadows, the town of Olten beckons with a rest stop along the Aare River.
Route No. 486: Solothurn Riverside Trail
Solothurn – Zuchwil
Solothurn, known as a magnificent Baroque city, also boasts picturesque spots along the Aare River that you can discover on this route. The riverside trail quickly leaves the bustling city behind and takes you into the peaceful countryside.
Route No. 501: Oberdorf – Grenchen – Waldrandweg
Oberdorf SO – Saurierspuren-Allmend – Grenchen
The name says it all for this leisurely hike from Oberdorf to Grenchen: it mostly follows the edge of the forest, offering lovely views. A highlight is the Lommiswil quarry, which is dotted with dinosaur tracks.
Route No. 502: Balmberg – Röti – Loop Trail
Balmberg – Weissenstein-Röti – Balmberg
This scenic loop hike through the Solothurn highlands leads from Balmberg over Röti to Weissenstein. Here, you’ll be treated to panoramic views stretching from Säntis to Mont Blanc. The trail returns to the starting point via Schofgraben.
