Burg Castle, also known as Biederthal Castle

The oldest parts of the complex date back to the mid-13th century. While owned by the House of Habsburg, the castle passed to a branch of the House of Ratolsdorf, which held estates in the rear region of the Blau. The Bishop of Basel acquired the castle in 1269 and granted it to the Lords of Bierthal, who held it until 1392. Later, the Lords of Wessenberg were enfeoffed with the fortress. Over the course of decades, they transformed the castle into a modern-style palace, as it still stands today.
The Palas, which is still largely intact, is the central historical feature of the building. The castle was sold to private owners in 1810. Today, the castle remains in private hands. For this reason, the building is not open to the public. However, the first gate and the outer courtyard are accessible at any time.
