Bucheggberg
Stay a while, explore, and relax
The Bucheggberg, also known as “Buechibärg” in the local dialect, is the southernmost district of the canton of Solothurn, and most of its cantonal border runs along the border with the canton of Bern. The region is considered one of the last near-natural cultural landscapes on the Swiss Mittelland. The landscape is picture-perfect, well-maintained, and natural—it also conveys a strong, authentic image of agriculture. The rural character has been preserved in its entirety and offers a vibrant experience of nature; the quality of housing and life remains high and intact to this day. As a brand, the Bucheggberg embodies its uniqueness through its agricultural buildings and the food produced there.
The Bucheggberg is extremely popular as a local recreation area for nature lovers and athletes. Food lovers have a wide variety of options for dining at the beautifully situated inns.
Historically speaking, the Bucheggberg has two cantonal “hearts” beating within it. In the 16th century, contrary to the trend in its parent canton and in step with the Canton of Bern, the district embraced the ideas of the Reformation. And even today, the numerous Catholic holidays in the Bucheggberg are not legally recognized as days off from work. Work continues in the more than 100 small and medium-sized businesses.
